Project Storm Shadow - Cooler Master H500M Build Guide

Let's clear some doubts and queries regarding the Cooler Master H500M






Recently I finished building off my personal build called Project Storm Shadow which is well a fully custom liquid cooled build made inside the Cooler Master H500M. As much as I loved creating this build it did brought out some interesting features and facts about this case which I thought are worth sharing in a build log cum FAQ guide which is dedicated solely to help certain people out there who plan to go for such build or just need a particular information regarding a particular feature.

Before we dive deep into this article I would like to clarify that while building this PC I came across little to no information about the points below which and that included reputed forums and even YouTube videos that made it all the while more difficult since none of them were accurate when it came to making a custom liquid cooling build though for general build with air cooler and AIOs there is plenty of useful information and reviews out there. This somewhat made my job quite difficult as I had to do a lot of research on the personal level and mix it with guess work with hopes that  it would work out just fine in the end. So I hope this article would serve a s one place stop for all the information that someone like me out there is and would be searching for.

Note - As this is an impromptu article so excuse me for the picture quality.


The Build






Storm Shadow is build with the sole purpose of performance at minimal cost without compromising upon quality. One more thing I kept in mind while sketching out the build is to make it as hassle free as possible when it comes to future maintenance of the loop hence, a soft tubing is what I went with which also helps me to upgrade atleast the CPU if not the motherboard in near future without tearing down the whole loop for a simple swap!

The vital configuration is as follows  -

In case most of you must be wondering that why have I used only one radiator and not two is pretty simple. For cooling a single CPU and GPU combo a single 45mm thick 360mm long radiator made out of copper is enough and anything more would yield diminishing returns but would surely make the build more complicated in ever way possible. My setup n this Indian summer where my ambient temperature mostly sits in at 30°C to 33°C without an air conditioner leaves my setup sitting at 52°C on the GPU and 63°C on the CPU which comes down my over 10°C when using an air conditioner!

With all of the basic explanation aside now lets get down to some FAQs


1. How much is the clearance for a radiator on top of the case?






The Cooler Master H500M doesn't have any clear explanation or information about this vital point. At most some would just say that its 34mm which is completely wrong infact its 70mm! Yes you read that right its 70mm on top.





The top has a removable grill which you can take out and mount the radiator to and then screw it back on the chassis. The catch is that if you look closely then their are various grills for mounting at different potions wrt the radiator size, if you mount the radiator to the last line of grill from the left side as in the pic then you can mount a radiator which is upto 60mm thick and mount the fans on top in the empty chamber on top between the main chassis and the glass top or you can slide in a 45mm radiator like I have and put a set of 25mm fans below it. The latter which is my case even allows you to go for a push pull since you can mount fans on top of the case too under the glass top.

Note - A 360mm 46mm or 60mm thick radiator would only fit with with the inlet-outlet holes on the motherboard IO shield side and not towards the front of the case since the IO shield would interfere with the radiator hence making it impossible to slide it inside the case


2. What are the other possible radiator placements?


Mounting locations for radiator in the CM H500M are either on top or in the front with the front being pretty straightforward if you want to mount a 240mm radiator but it gets a bit tricky with a 360mm radiator which would lead to the below scenarios as you need to remove the metal piece on the HDD shroud -



a. If its a slim 30mm radiator then you'll be fine mounting it with the fans inside the case but this means that you would need to use atleast two radiators in case its a full loop cooling a GPU and CPU hence increasing the loop complexity unnecessarily but that's subjective.

b. Opting for a 45mm or thicker radiator would mean either you remove the front 200mm stock fans and replace them with radiator fans which would then be sucking in fresh air but compromising the whole signature look of the H500M series as you can't place those large 200mm fans in front anymore.

Or you can remove the HDD cage completely to make room for the radiator and fans to sit inside the case hence, sandwiching the radiator between the front 200mm fans and the radiator fans. This means you would compromise HDD storage completely making it either a full SSD system or you'll need to use a NAS or something for large storage.


3. Any RAM clearance issue?






If you plan to do push pull or just push like me with a top 45mm radiator or just a pull with a 60mm thick radiator then make sure you don't use any sort of an external RAM cooler or water block or even RAM sticks that tend to stick out at the DIMM retention clips.

In my case I am left with just enough space to open the RAM slot clips for swapping memory sticks if and when required. I use pretty standard sized Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB that are completely flat at their edges. RAM height won't create any issues whatsoever though.


4. What is the Reservoir Clearance?






The case allows for around 13 inches of clearance from the top to the metal shroud but this length is shortened when you install a radiator, fans or both on top so subtract it accordingly. I opted for a reservoir and pump combo which measures in at 240mm of total height and I had to remove the pump mount bracket on top of the shroud to install it.

For installing a longer reservoir-pump combo say something like 310mm or so you will have to remove the HDD cage and the shroud completely hence posing the same issue as I've mentioned in the above answer.


5. Optimum placement for reservoir units?


The Cooler Master H500M comes with two dedicated reservoir mounts, one on the shroud and one on the side grill where the two SSD mounts also happen to be located. The one on the shroud is kind of useless when one is using a long graphics card such as myself as it'll leave no space for the reservoir to stand on that mount. Maybe you can use it if you mount your graphics card vertically for which the case has provision readily out of the box.





The grills on the side is what's optimum if you ask me since you can mount the reservoir with the clips that most come with out of the box by simply screwing the clips into the rail from behind of the case like I have done in my build.

This way you won't be compromising too much air flow coming from the front fans which you might have if mounting the reservoir in the front of the case using a bracket that you would have have to buy separately adding up extra cost unnecessarily.

On the downside you'll compromise two SSD mounts but I suppose four should be plenty anyways that you'll be left with.


6. Any issues with eat dissipation from the top since its solid glass? 






Yes, since the top is solid tempered glass on the H500M it won't let hot air escape via the natural path that is hot air rises upwards instead the hot air will escape through the side grill which isn't enough and this results in the radiator getting heat soaked leading to around 5°C-6°C rise on both the CPU and GPU if you take my case since both are cooled via the same radiator.

A simple way around is to either DIY a mesh panel for the top or just unscrewing the TG panel, taking out the four washers from the middle and then screwing the glass panel back with long head screws with the washers in between the glass and the top panel. This will create around 1cm of extra space letting hot air escape through and improving the temperatures by almost 4°C atleast depending upon your ambient temperature.



Well, these were some of the questions that I had in my mind while going for this build and also some were from various people over the web that didn't get any clear answer from others. Hope this small guide cum FAQ compilation would be helpful for someone out there who's planning to go for a custom loop inside this magnificent H500M chassis from Cooler Master.

Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240R RGB Review

Cooler Master ML240R RGB - When great performance meets RGB goodness!!






Cooler Master is now a household name when it comes to PC enthusiasts and gamers thanks to its wide and very effective range of PSUs, Gaming Chassis, Coolers and now even peripherals. Last year among their new launches was the CM MasterLiquid Pro series of AIO coolers which did one heck of a job and even I had the privilege of reviewing one of those namely as the CM MasterLiquid Pro 280, a cooler with a lot up its sleeves.

Now this year they've taken a step ahead and revamped or rather improved for some people in a department that happens to be the deciding factor for most people's purchase, RGB Lighting! Yes Cooler Master this year launched the Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240R RGB AIO CPU Liquid Cooler which if nothing else is all about RGB lights and customization with a few nifty additions.





Priced in at $120 or Rs 9,000 in India the ML240R RGB from Cooler Master belongs to the Regular category of coolers out of the three that Cooler Master now follows for its products namely as Lite, Regular and Pro, the names are self-explanatory in themselves. This cooler is clearly aimed at gamers and enthusiasts and nothing too extreme hence we get a cooler that has Addressable RGB controls with two ARGB MasterFan Fans and a pump header that loaded with the same while offering respectable cooling experience.


What's in the Box!?






Cooler Master brings the MasterLiquid ML240R RGB in a heavy cardboard box which is accentuated by black and purple color theme that is signature to almost all the Cooler Master Products now. The box has a large image of the cooler itself in the center, CM logo on the top left and the product name at the bottom left side. You also get to know that the RGB controller is included inside the box which is a major part and feature of this product to which we'll come later down the review.





Inside the box you will find everything snugly packed and seated inside an egg box card which is sturdy enough with respect to the weight of the product to keep this unit safe during harsh transit. All the included accessories are inside two plastic bags, one for all the brackets and nut-bolts while the other has all the wires for the cooler.





For the accessories section we have two ARGB fans which we'll discuss later on, the ML240R cooler itself, a backplate for Intel platforms, nuts-screws and stand-offs, stand-offs for the LGA 2011 socket, retention brackets for Intel and AMD platforms including the AM4, fan and radiator mounting screws, ARGB and RGB male to male connectors and a tube of thermal compound.

If that was not enough then we have a plethora of wires enlisting which is a tiring job in its own rights but here we go, a wire that ends into a USB female port from the onboard USB 2.0 port on the motherboard, a male USB to micro USB connector, a 1 to 3 ARGB splitter cable, a PWM fan splitter cable, two ARGB extension cables and a reset cable extension wire along with the ARGB controller itself.





The pair of fans provided along with the Cooler Master ML240R RGB are the CM MasterFan MF120R ARGB fans which at the time of this review are not sold separately and are available with the new ML120R and ML240R RGB AIO coolers. These fans can spin at a maximum 2000RPM with a CFM rating of 59 each and use two braided wires for power and their ARGB functionalities. One is a standard PWM connector while the other is a three pin ARGB wire for the Addressable RGB functions that can either be controlled via the provided controller or the motherboard if it comes with a ARGB port which as of now is a rarity.









Looking at the pump here we see an entirely different design and aesthetics from what we are used to seeing from CM. Its a glossy premium plastic finish with a subtle Cooler Master logo on top of a cover which holds the diffuser under it for that whole animated ARGB experience. Its a dual chamber design which used PPS (Polyphenylene sulfide) and glass fiber as prime materials for constructing the pump casing to make it "light and impervious to oxidation and corrosion" as per Cooler Master official website. 

It used a PWM fan cable along with a ARGB cable for all its desired functions which is stealthy enough and you don't have to deal with a bunch of wires running wild all over the place! Also the 360mm long and 8mm thick FEB tubing are braided which I really like and the swivel joints though hard can turn to a full 90° for easy routing and pipe management if that is a word at all.





The cold-plate is copper but isn't all glossy and shiny like the ones we find on their Pro series coolers from last year but instead this one is an off the mill plate with brushed finishing which can be an issue but on the bright side the cold-plate is flat and big which can cover CPU of every sizes easily for optimum heat dissipation including the Intel HEDT ones which we'll be using for testing.







The radiator on the CM ML240R is a successor to that on the previous Pro series AIO and like them I love these too for their clean rectangular design with no funny business going on giving it a distinct yet elegant look. Measuring in at 277x119.6x27 mm this radiator has a 23 fin/inch density which is on the denser side of a 240mm rad and with high CFM and high RPM fans such as the MF120R I'm intrigued to see the performance of this cooler in our benchmarks.





Cooler Master bundles the ML240R with a dedicated ARGB controller which is responsible for all the ARGB functions of this cooler including that of the fans and on the pump. The controller is powered by a SATA cable and communicates with the motherboard via a micro USB port for software control and even has physical buttons on top to control the animation, speed and even to switch between RGB and ARGB mode You can connect upto five ARGB devices and two RGB devices to this control box which is fantastic and more so its magnetic so it sticks to the back of your motherboard tray without any hassle or issues.


Time for the Fun Part - Installation 






For this benchmark I'll be using my X99 setup which I always use for any cooler review to bring in homogeneity and comparative analysis. Over here we'll use the Gigabyte X99 Gaming 5P motherboard with the Intel i7 5930K CPU which can generate quite a lot of heat when overclocked especially with over-voltage. All the parts and components for this are shown in the image above & you will need all of these no matter which platform you will mount this cooler upon except for the LGA 2011 stand-offs replaced by the Intel backplate kit for Intel platforms and AMD retention brackets for AMD platforms as you don't need a separate backplate for the same.  





Since everything here is pretty straightforward and doesn't need much of an explanation but I feel that most of you would bang your head with all those wires and how to connect them so let's make that part easy for you.

First you need to connect the USB cables together so connect the USB cable to the motherboard USB 2.0 port and to the then female USB port of that cable connect the other provided cable that ends into a micro USB cable that will be plugged into the ARGB controller. Now you need to plug the two fan splitter cables together so that one end is plugged into the mother fan header, one small header to the controller and that further extends to two male PWN fan connectors for the fans of the raditor. Take the ARGB 1 to 3 splitter cable and using one of the provided male to male ARGB pins just connect the wire to the right side ARGB port on the controller. That's it now simply connect the ARGB splitter cable to the pump and fans and a SATA connector to the controller to power it on. Hope that sorts out the whole process for most of you out there.


Let's put it to Test!






For testing the performance of the Cooler Master ML240R RGB we'll be using the following test bench -





CPU: Intel Core i7 5930K

Motherboard: Gigabyte X99 Gaming 5P

RAM: Kingston HyperX Predator 16GB DDR4 3000Mhz

Cooler: Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240R RGB

Graphics Card: MSI RX 580 Gaming X 8G

Storage: Corsair Neutron XTi 480GB

Power Supply: Cooler Master V1200 1200W

OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit



Once installed everything powers on as desired and the ARGB controller provided along with the cooler does the desired job and works flawlessly through the physical buttons. However the newly launched software for controlling the control box did not work in my case even after numerous fresh installations and reboots. This was a bit disappointing since once the cooler is inside a closed chassis the control box would not be physically accessible rendering the ARGB controls redundant for most part of it limiting the user to the reset button in the front for less precise controls.

As for the testing firstly, the CPU is kept at stock speeds with boost enabled and
temperatures are measured both at idle and at full load. Then we
overclock our Intel i7 5930K to 4.5Ghz at 1.45v which by now everyone
knows is a frequency where this chip tends to get real hot at, the same
process as that for the stock speed testing is repeated. Temperature is
measured using HW monitor with an average being taken of the
temperatures recorded on all six cores. MSI Kombuster utility is what I
prefer to stress test the CPU at all eight threads, I run it for a good
15 minutes before recording the temperatures since by then the
temperatures reach a saturation point.

Secondly, the pump is plugged directly into the CPU Fan header while the
fans on the other fan headers of the motherboard. Fan profile was kept
at default from the BIOS itself to rule out any discrepancy whatsoever.

The readings would be shown in delta temperature that is after
subtracting the ambient temperature of the room while noise levels are
recorded from a distance of three feet from the cooler which is a
reasonable and practical distance for such tests.







In our testing the Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240R RGB does a fabulous job at keeping the CPU cooled at idle and also when overclocked especially considering the fact that we are talking about a 240mm cooler which is not aimed at extreme overclocking but for day to day usage of gaming and editing. Not only does the cooler beats the similar sized Corsair H100i GTX but it also comes quite close to the much bigger CM MasterLiquid Pro 280 at considerably lower noise levels plus the added RGB functionality. Considering my ambient temperature is high and the
fan profiles are set to default I'm sure if you set the fan speeds to
full or to performance in a cooler environment the results would be even
better.





The cooler I'd say is a bit noisy, in terms of numbers but not in reality, even when the system is under full load and surely so dead silent when at idle. Considering its size and the
two 120mm fans that come into play the cooler is one of the quietest
coolers in its category if not the quietest. This is an improvement over
the previous AIO designs from Cooler Master which tend to be noisy hence the use of MF120R ARGB fans did the job for CM offering quieter performance for
this unit along with RGB goodness.


My Verdict 


When the CM MasterLiquid Pro 280 came out last year I thought that I'd never like another Cooler Master AIO over the entire package the Pro 280 had to offer but then I met this ML240R RGB and everything changed and I mean that for the better!

Cooler Master finally heard what to all the feedback over the year and brought something that offers great performance along with a rare combination of addressable RGB functionalities which even to this day is a rarity making the CM MasterLiquid ML240R RGB a unique cooler in its own right.



The cooling performance is excellent for a cooler of its size offering low temperatures and high compatibility with cases due to its slim 27mm radiator which barely touches the 50mm mark with the fans installed. Noise levels are well within the acceptable range and we see nothing too loud or vibrating here that might disturb your gaming or multimedia experience like a bug near the ear.

Now for the star of the show, the ARGB functions are well above my expectations and are simply some of the easiest to use in the market today. The animations are apt and nothing too overdone and we get enough customization options through the box itself which also happens to make this a great product since the ARGB works on systems that don't even support RGB headers such as out test bench today providing a wide market to CM to cater to with this cooler. My only gripe for now is that the software from CM did not work on my unit probably due to a flaw in the software or maybe in the unit itself which only time will tell as a newer version of the software rolls out in future.


"Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240R RGB is marvelous in terms of balance between much needed
features, distinctive yet elegant looks and to the point pricing. Highly
recommended for someone who's looking at building  a high end system or just
want a cooler to make his rig stand out from the crowd!"

Corsair H150i Pro RGB Review

Corsair H150i Pro RGB - When great performance meets RGB goodness!!






Last year at COMPUTEX Corsair dropped a hint that it is working on an entirely new series of AIO coolers which would not only be different in looks but also mark Corsair's entry into a new realm of CPU Liquid coolers. And here we are today with Corsair dropping two new coolers in the market namely as the Corsair H115i Pro RGB and the Corsair H150i Pro RGB which are not only in the much needed RGB flavor that Corsair AIO were lacking behind in but the H150i Pro RGB marks the first ever 360mm AIO cooling unit from the house of Corsair which with the current generations of Threadripper and Skylake X processors are a must for high end builds!

Thanks to Corsair India today I have with me the flag-bearer of this new lineup, the Corsair H150i Pro RGB CPU Liquid Cooler for review and I can't be any more excited than this to test this beautiful yet massive unit.





With a price tag of $170 the Corsair H150i Pro RGB is the
first of the two to initiate the Pro series of coolers from Corsair and
is equipped with three 120mm ML120 Quiet edition high static pressure
magnetic levitation fans making it a 360mm unit with an entirely new
pump design which boasts RGB lighting and support for Corsair Link
software, hence the 'i' in the name, for a bunch of features and customization. The cooler comes
backed up with the Corsair 5 years warranty.


What's in the Box!?






Corsair has packed the H150i Pro RGB in a thick and heavy cardboard box just like all of its coolers and the color scheme of black and yellow is also there that we are used to now from them with all their products but this time we also see a hue of colors in the backdrop of the image of the cooler imprinted on the front that signify the RGB nature of the cooler. All the features are neatly printed on the front itself such as compatibility, use of ML120 fans, RGB pump header and the 5 years warranty support.









Inside we find the cooler & all its components packed safely inside a molded cardboard frame which is good enough to cushion a unit of this size and weight.

Content wise the package includes the H150i Pro RGB cooling unit, three 120mm ML120 Quiet edition PWM fans, a Corsair Link cable, AMD bracket, Intel backplate, stand-offs, washer and screws for installing the cooler and fans along with the warranty leaflet and installation guide.





A thing worth noticing here is that Corsair has not provided a separate backplate for AMD platforms which is a wise move since they already come with a metal backplate on the motherboards, also the AMD bracket has a different installation process now which is more simple and quicker to which I will come later on.


Let's take a Closer Look






Corsair H150i Pro RGB is a completely different from any of its predecessors in terms of almost everything, at-least from the outside. The pump and cold plate unit on the H150i, which is an Asetek design,  is quite sleek and made out of premium quality glossy plastic. The top has the Corsair logo which is RGB LED backlit along with the whole outer lining of the black portion.

Also the Intel bracket comes installed out of the box and can be easily swapped with the AMD one by a turn and pull method to simplify the process. The micro-USB port on one side is for connecting the Corsair Link cable that the cooler comes with.





The cold plate comes pre-applied with a thermal paste and looking
closely we can see that the copper base plate is not perfectly smooth
but has some machine marks on it which shouldn't be an issue in cooling
as almost all Corsair AIOs that I've used so far had the same finish but
delivered nicely in cooling.





Corsair has used a 350mm long Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) braided tube on the H150i Pro RGB which is thinner than the ones which we are used to from Corsair but are extremely flexible and not too hard like the ones on the H100i GTX that caused issues when routing them inside tight spaces! I'm happy that Corsair made these braided tubes flexible and they can even rotate to a full 90° to the pump unit for easy installation and routing.





A bunch of wires vine out from the pump unit namely as a SATA cable to power the pump, a PWM fan connector to power the installed fans and a Y-splitter to connect the two provided fans. It can surely give a few a hard time to manage so many cables protruding out near the tight CPU area but this is a good arrangement as it sheds the additional load off the motherboard fan header to power the pump and fans all together hence there is no compromise upon the performance.





The fans that comes with the Corsair H150i Pro RGB are the Corsair ML120 Quiet edition magnetic levitation fans that are 120mm in size and are rated at 1600 a rpm max which can move up to 47.3CFM of air at a sound pressure rating of only 25dB. Since this is a RGB lighting oriented cooler its a bit sad that the fans are non RGB since Corsair already has ML120 Pro RGB fans in their catalog which not only look great but would've been an apt addition to his cooler.







Corsair has used a aluminum radiator on the H150i Pro RGB which measure in at 396x120x27 mm and has a high fin density of 20FPI (Fin per Inch) which should be there for a product of this stature. The build quality of this unit is solid and doesn't feel light or flimsy from any angle, support for upto six 120mm fans making a push pull configuration for which the fan screws are provided by default inside the package earning it a few brownie points. As for the aesthetics Corsair has done nothing odd or out of the box here but just put their logo at one end creating a minimalist design rather than the usual plastic strip with logo that runs on both sides of the radiator like that on their previous models.


Time for the fun part - Installation!






Over here I'm going to test the Corsair H150i Pro RGB with my Gigabyte X99 Gaming 5P motherboard which is an Intel Haswell-E/Broadwell-E platform and also can get really hot at times.

We basically need the LGA2011-3 stand offs along with the retention screws for holding the pump in place. The ML120 fans provided with the unit are the simple ones and not the ones with a rubber grommet at the edges so using the provided washers is a good idea to secure the fans nicely upon the radiator. Also the Corsair Link cable is optional and is only needed to control the RGB lights or to set fan profiles otherwise if not used the cooler would work with the LEDs on and programmed to a breathing mode changing color each time.

Its worth mentioning that Corsair has simplified the AMD platform installation with the H150i/H115i Pro RGB to a great extent which no other AIO manufacturer has done so far. To use it on an AMD platform one just has to use the AMD bracket and tighten the cooler upon the default plastic standoffs that the AMD motherboards come with making the installation extremely simple especially for users like me who use the Asus X370 Crosshait VI Hero that needs to have an extra plate removed from its back to install any other after market cooler that has its own backplate!





Once installed and ready I'm very happy with the outcomes as the installation is very simple for this cooler on any platform whatsoever. Since the radiator is thin measuring in at around 27mm the total thickness of this unit even with the ML120fans on is just over 50mm making it widely compatible with most of the chassis that support a 360mm radiator unit. The tubes are flexible and can be turned and twisted in the desired fashion which eases the installation process manifolds even inside a closed chassis such as the Corsair SPEC Omega which I've used here. Even though there are a lot of wires going in and coming out of the pump area tucking them in is not big of an issue and can be done skillfully with patience.


Let's put it to Test!


For testing the performance of the Corsair H150i Pro RGB we'll be using the following test bench -





CPU: Intel Core i7 5930K

Motherboard: Gigabyte X99 Gaming 5P

RAM: Kingston HyperX Predator 16GB DDR4 3000Mhz

Cooler: Corsair H150i Pro RGB

Graphics Card: MSI R9 380 Gaming 4G

Storage: Corsair Neutron XTi 480GB

Power Supply: Cooler Master MasterWatt Lite 700

Case: Corsair Carbide SPEC Omega

OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit



Before I move on any further its noteworthy that the Zero RPM mode, which is a new addition and exclusive to the Pro series coolers, is only available if you install and use the Corsair LINK software and cannot be accessed otherwise. This feature turns off the fans completely till the coolant temperature doesn't exceed 40°C and I repeat that its the coolant temperature and not the CPU temperature so be vary. Overall its a welcome addition as not only it eliminated the unnecessary noise production for idle systems but it also brings these coolers in sync with Corsair's PSUs that boast a similar feature such as the AXi series.





Coming back to the testing of the cooler firstly, the CPU is kept at
stock speeds with boost enabled and temperatures are measured both at
idle and at full load. Then we overclock our Intel i7 5930K to 4.5Ghz at
1.75v which is a bit more than what my chip requires to reach that
frequency but I had to add some extra heat to it, the same process as
that for the stock speed testing is repeated. Temperature is measured
using HW monitor with an average being taken of the temperatures
recorded on all six cores. MSI Kombuster utility is what I prefer to
stress test the CPU at all twelve threads, I run it for a good 15
minutes before recording the temperatures since by then the temperatures
reach a saturation point.

Secondly, the pump is plugged directly into the SATA connector while the
fans are plugged into the motherboard fan header via the provided fan
extension cable. Fan profile was kept at default from the BIOS itself to
rule out any discrepancy whatsoever.

The readings would be shown in delta temperature that is after
subtracting the ambient temperature of the room while noise levels are
recorded from a distance of three feet from the cooler which is a
reasonable and practical distance for such tests.







Temperature wise we can see that the Corsair H150i Pro RGB does a
fabulous job for a 360mm AIO cooler especially at overclocked
frequencies where it beats similar sized 360mm AIO coolers which is a direct compliment to the improvement in design by Corsair with the pump on this unit. Its noteworthy that the Corsair H115i Pro RGB is near identical in performance to the H150i Pro RGB which is because the H115i Pro RGB uses higher static fans in comparison and the difference between these two units can only be substantially felt once the coolant really heats up and the need for the third 120mm fan on the H150i Pro RGB really comes into play to cool everything down which is only bound to happen under extreme prolonged load on the CPU or while working in a hot room such as in peak summers. Considering my ambient temperature is high and the
fan profiles are set to default I'm sure if you set the fan speeds to
full or to performance in a cooler environment the results would be even
better.





The cooler is a bit noisy I'd say when the system is under full load but
at idle state the units is barely audible. Considering its size and the
two 140mm fans that come into play the cooler is one of the quietest
coolers in its category if not the quietest. This is an improvement over
the previous AIO designs from Corsair which tend to be noisy hence the use of ML120 silent
edition fans did the job for Corsair offering quieter performance for
this unit if not RGB rich.


My Verdict 


Corsair has always brought out some unique AIOs over the year most of
them improving over where their predecessor fell short and the same can
be said for the Corsair H150i Pro RGB. The H150i Pro RGB has some
welcome features that easily outweigh its cons.



The radiator and pump are all solid in build and look elegant from every
possible corner with no unnecessary gimmicks! Sleeved tubing is really
robust and flexible which is something I love as I've always felt that
Corsair tubing has been a bit too rigid but not over here. Cooling
performance is
really good for a cooler of this category, probably the best amongst the widely available AIOs, and its true power is seen
when the processor is overclocked so yet again its proven that this
cooler is only meant for people who plan to run really hot/overclocked
systems as at stock you'll be better off with a smaller unit. Corsair
H150i Pro RGB is one of the quietest 360mm AIOs out there today and that
is all
because of the improved pump design along with the use of ML120 quiet
edition fans. They've compromised raw
performance at the cost of silence but you can always swap them with
aftermarket fans including Corsair's own ML120 Pro RGB fans to not only
reap the full benefits of this cooler in terms of performance but also
to complete the whole RGB look that the unit is aimed at.

The RGB lighting on the pump is really soothing and well balanced while
the Zero RPM feature is something that every other brand should be
taking notes from, a very simple but highly effective move.
