Cooler Master Highlights 2019 Thermal Products at Computex

MasterAir Maker 3DVVC   

The MasterAir Maker 3DVVC is created with our 3D Vertical Vapor Chamber technology. Instead of the traditional heat pipes to dissipate the heat from the CPU, this cooler uses one single unit of a 3D Vertical Vapor Chamber to replace the heat pipes. The vapor chamber is precisely shaped into a U shape configuration to evenly distribute the CPU heat into the aluminum fins and cooled down by two 140mm fans. 

MasterAir MA620M

The MasterAir MA620M comes with dual blacked out aluminum towers with a uniform 6 heat pipe layout to dissipate the heat evenly. The Silencio FP120 fan provides high air pressure with silent performance to cool away the heat from the heat pipes in silence. Easy mounting system along with array of Addressable RGB LED lighting makes the MA620M the best option in the market for an air cooling solution. 

MasterAir G200P and G400P

The G200/400P will be Cooler Master’s next small-form-factor (SFF) air cooler. With an ultra-low profile of 39.5mm for G200P and 58mm for G400P, embedded 2 heat pipes (G200P) and 4 heat pipes (G400P), and 92mm fan for both models. The G200/400P will provide users with ample thermal performance in compact form. Other proposed features include RGB lighting.

MasterLiquid Dual Pump AIO Design

Cooler Master is introducing our new dual pump AIO liquid cooler that incorporates our dual chamber design on both pumps. The dual pump is designed to enhance cooling performance by maximizing the flow rate and flow pressure of the coolant to the water block. The enhance flow rate and flow pressure of the coolant will dissipate the CPU heat at a much faster rate compared to the traditional AIO liquid coolers.

MasterLiquid Maker 240 New Edition

Cooler Master MasterLiquid Maker 240 comes with a newly designed reservoir and pump that creates a liquid vortex. The exclusive in-house pump design creates a liquid vortex effect by having the liquid flow through the top of the reservoir and then suctioned out through the bottom of the pump into the water block. The reservoir is equipped with Addressable RGB LED lighting to enhance the liquid vortex effect.

MasterLiquid ML240P Mirage

Designed and manufactured by Cooler Master’s skilled in-house team, the ML240P Mirage uncovers what’s inside. Featuring a transparent pump cover, this uniquely designed AIO provides users with a clear view of the operating impeller; coupled with eight Addressable RGB (ARGB) LEDs around the internal rim of the pump, users of the ML240P Mirage will be delighted with a hypnotizing light show. 

MasterFan SF Series

The new Cooler Master SF series of case fans are designed with a square fan frame for more direct airflow and pressure. The new square shape of the SF-R ARGB series provides more surface coverage on AIOs and air coolers. The SF120R ARGB, SF240R ARGB, and SF360R ARGB will be available in different sizes of 120/240/360mm with integrated fan frame design.

MasterFan SF120M  

The MasterFan SF120M is our first Maker edition fan with a patented square 120mm metallic damping fan frame. The metallic frames are strategically placed on the fan to reduce vibration and internal friction. The double ball bearings further reduce friction and can be mounted in any direction without affecting fan performance. The noise level is limited to 26 dBA while having the performance level of an industrial fan.

Computex 2019 marks the launch of the latest COSMOS. The COSMOS C700P Black Edition extends further than its matte black coating, comprised of internal and external advancements upon the original. The PSU Shroud, flat radiator brackets, fine mesh panels, cable cover system, and an extra rear panel are all included to extend the COSMOS’ modular origins. Gigabyte’s new SSDs are rated to deliver incredibly fast 3,480MB/s reads

Rated write performance is fast as well.

Gigabyte is rolling out a pair of solid state drives that will light up your PC with speedy performance. Offered under its Aorus brand and shipping (presumably soon) in the add-in card form factor, these new SSDs slide into a  PCIe 3.0 x4 port and deliver read and write speeds that are several times faster than SATA-based SSDs.

You may have heard about these drives before. That's because Gigabyte first announced them at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. Now around three months later, it's added product pages to its website for these new drives, and is expected to make them available soon.

The drives come in two capacities: 512GB and 1TB. Both are rated to offer up to 3,480MB/s of sequential read performance, though the 1TB model is the overall faster of the two. Here's a look at the specs on the 1TB model:

• Sequential read: 3,480MB/s


• Sequential write: 3,080MB/s


• 4K random read: 610,000 IOPS


• 4K random write: 530,000 IOPS


• Endurance: 1,600 TBW

And here are the specs on the 512GB model:

• Sequential read: 3,480MB/s


• Sequential write: 2,100MB/s


• 4K random read: 360,000 IOPS


• 4K random write: 512,000 IOPS


• Endurance: 800 TBW

The specs on both models are comparable to Western Digital's SN750, the best SSD for gaming in the NVMe space. The SN750 line is built around the more convenient M.2 form factor, though if you're rocking an older motherboard that does not have an NVMe slot, AIC solutions like Gigabyte's are an end-around to buying a new mobo.

It appears Gigabyte is also making an appeal to aesthetics. By going with an AIC form factor, it's able to deliver a more flashy product, both in terms of RGB lighting and the design on the heat spreaders.

The other advantage Gigabyte is touting is temp control. According to Gigabyte, its double-sided heat spreader design kept temps at around 50C during internal testing. There are also thermal pads on both sides of the drive. Still, it's a more cumbersome solution compared to M.2.

Gigabyte still has not said when its new drives will be available to buy or how much they will cost. Given that product pages now exist, we imagine they will ship soon.

Gigabyte to bundle a hand-picked Core i9-9900K with an Aorus motherboard for $1,600

Overclocking made easy (and expensive).

Remember that $900 motherboard from Gigabyte that came out last December? Well, starting soon you'll have the option of buying it with a binned Core i9-9900K processor (which is the best CPU for gaming at the time of writing) for an eye-popping $1,600, with a guaranteed overclock of 5.1GHz.



The motherboard is a Z390 Aorus Xtreme Waterforce 5G. It's every bit a high end board, with a built-in, all-in-one monoblock to incorporate into your liquid cooling loop and all kinds of premium amenities.



For the upcoming bundle, Gigabyte is sorting through and stress testing Core i9-9900K processors based on their ability to overclock. Only the ones that can maintain a stable 5.1GHz on all cores make the cut and are included in the bundle.



Most users who buy the bundle should be able to hit that speed out of the box, unless there is a problem elsewhere in their system (RAM, cooling, and so forth). To make things as easy as possible, Gigabyte sets the appropriate parameters in the BIOS before shipping.



"The BIOS has also been pretuned so that users won’t have to configure the settings to avoid complications and confusion for hitting all cores at 5.1GHz and higher while overclocking. Additionally, Gigabyte engineers have already stress tested these motherboards at higher loads compared to that of standard configurations to ensure the reliability of these boards so that users can enjoy extreme performance with all cores at 5.1GHz or higher and excellent stability," Gigabytes says.

Razer is making a gaming monitor

It features a fast 1440p panel and plenty of RGB lighting.

Razer today announced the Raptor 27, a gaming monitor featuring a 27-inch 1440p IPS panel with 144Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and support for AMD FreeSync. This is Razer's first dedicated entry into the gaming monitor space, joining the company's efforts on laptops and other hardware, in addition to the peripherals it is known for.

"Razer has worked alongside partners in the past to bring the Razer experience to monitors, but the full potential was never fully realized, said Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan in a press release. "We have decided to tackle this space on our own and are very excited to expand our presence to include desktop displays."

The monitor is targeted at the gaming and esports space with its high-fidelity visuals paired with a fast refresh rate and response time. It also features a single-body aluminum base outfitted with channels in the back for cable management, and can be tilted back 90 degrees in order to easily reach the cable inputs underneath. And of course, up front the base is tricked out with Chroma RGB lighting.

Razer says the panel supports 95 percent of the DCI-P3 color gamut, and has a brightness of up to 420 nits—bright enough for HDR 400 certification. The support for FreeSync, instead of G-Sync, is somewhat of a disappointment, though if Nvidia's promise of bringing FreeSync support to its GPUs proves true, Razer's decision here may end up moot.

Razer says the Raptor 27 will launch at $699.99 sometime later this year.

Nvidia brings G-Sync support to FreeSync monitors

A driver update will soon turn on G-Sync support for other variable refresh monitors.

 

For a few years, Nvidia's G-Sync has been the best thing going in gaming monitors: an adaptive sync technology that uses specialized hardware to match the framerate of the monitor with an Nvidia graphics card. Because G-Sync displays use proprietary Nvidia tech, though, they're pricey, and the open standard of FreeSync has come close to delivering the same experience on lower priced variable refresh displays. Now Nvidia is bringing G-Sync compatibility to some of those FreeSync monitors, no extra hardware required.

"We tested about 400 [adaptive sync] monitors and 12 of them passed," Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said at the company's CES press conference Sunday. "We're going to test every async monitor the world has made, and for the ones that pass, we're going to certify them, and we're going to optimize the software to support them, and we're going to turn it on in our software so that whatever Geforce customer enjoys that panel can now enjoy it as if they purchased a G-Sync monitor."

This new FreeSync monitor support will go live in Nvidia's January 15 driver update. And it actually won't be limited just to FreeSync monitors that Nvidia says pass certification. Those monitors will simply have the feature turned on by default.

"For gamers who have monitors that we have not yet tested, or that have failed validation, we’ll give you an option to manually enable [G-Sync], too," says Nvidia's press release.

Nvidia's Titan RTX doubles down on extreme pricing

Nvidia's Titan RTX costs as much as SLI RTX 2080 Ti.

On Saturday, some early 'leaks' hinted that Titan RTX would be announced soon. While it's not on sale yet, the official Titan RTX product page is now live at Nvidia. If you thought the RTX 20-series prices were off-putting, the Titan RTX is going to be a bitter pill. But Titan cards have never been about value.

Specs are much as expected. Titan RTX gets the full TU102 treatment. That's 4,608 CUDA cores, 72 RT cores, and 576 Tensor cores. It also gets the full 384-bit memory interface, and in a bit of a surprise it doubles the memory capacity to 24GB. The base clock is 1350MHz, with a boost clock of 1770MHz. In effect, it's a lot like a Quadro RTX 6000, but without the Quadro drivers and with the GDDR6 clocked at the full 14 GT/s, and a slightly higher boost clock.

Titan RTX also marks a return of SLI (NVLink) support to the Titan line, after it was missing in the Titan V. Like the 2080 Ti, it uses the full 100GB/s NVLink connection if you pair up a couple of Titan RTX cards. And there's a gold NVLink connector to match the Titan RTX gold color scheme.

Not surprisingly, the price is high. Nvidia effectively doubles down on the RTX 2080 Ti pricing, with the Titan RTX selling for $2,499. It will start shipping later this month, and as with previous Titan cards, it will only be available direct from Nvidia or from one of Nvidia's SI partners. For the same price, you could buy two RTX 2080 Ti cards plus the NVLink connector, and still have $20 left for lunch.



In terms of performance, based on raw specs, the Titan RTX has 6 percent more CUDA cores, RT cores, and Tensor cores than the RTX 2080 Ti. That's the biggest advantage a Titan card has ever held over the same generation Ti model. Even more interesting, while the base clock is the same 1350MHz for the Titan and 2080 Ti, the boost clock is 8 percent higher than the 2080 Ti FE, and 15 percent higher than the reference 2080 Ti clocks. The TDP is also 280W vs. 250W/260W on the 2080 Ti cards. In theory that's up to a 21 percent performance advantage. And you still get twice the GDDR6.

By comparison, the original Titan was up to 16 percent faster than the GTX 780, while the Titan Black was only 4 percent faster than the 780 Ti. Likewise, the Maxwell Titan X was only about 3 percent faster than a GTX 980 Ti, and the Titan Xp was also around 3 percent higher.

Regardless of the larger than normal performance bump for a Titan card, Nvidia generally doesn't push Titan cards as gaming-focused solutions. The diminishing returns going from the top consumer cards to the Titan options have always been poor, and the cards are more of a status symbol than something we would recommend buying. Buy hey, at least it's $500 cheaper than the Titan V.

Seagate’s 16TB hard drive makes your Steam library seem puny

This is the world's largest-capacity hard drive.

Seagate just laid the HAMR (heat-assisted magnetic recording) down in the storage space by unveiling the world's first formatted and fully functioning 16-terabyte hard drive, the highest-capacity HDD ever produced.

Built for the enterprise market, the new 16TB model conforms to the standard 3.5-inch HDD form factor and, in theory, should work just fine in any modern desktop. It's part of the company's Exos family and will presumably ship with the same SATA 6Gbps and 12Gbps SAS interface options that other Exos drives do.

While not intended for the consumer market, it's only a matter of time before Seagate (and others) bring 16TB to home users. After all, Seagate already offers a 14TB model as part of its Barracuda Pro line for consumers.



The new 16TB model isn't just more capacious, though, it uses a different type of recording technology—HAMR instead of PMR (perpendicular magnetic recording). Here's a short video that breaks it down in plain English:

Seagate views HAMR technology as being key to enabling increasingly higher capacity HDDs. The company says it's on track to exceed 20TB in 2020, and could even reach 100TB within the next 5-7 years.

In an blog post from last year, Seagate defended the need for bigger HDDs, citing a recent IDC report predicting worldwide data creation will grow to 163 zettabytes by 2025. That's a tenfold increase in the amount of data that was produced in 2017.

As for the 16TB HDD that Seagate just announced, to put that kind of storage space into perspective, it could hold over 100 installations of Final Fantasy XV with the optional 4K high-resolution pack.

AMD Radeon RX 590 Mid-Range GPU Announced for Full-HD PC Gaming

 

AMD is introducing a new mid-range GPU, the Radeon RX590, in order to captialise on demand from users looking to upgrade but not spend too much. The Radeon RX590 is not based on a new architecture, but instead a refresh of the current mainstream Polaris architecture. It is AMD's first GPU to be manufactured on a new 12nm, process which allows for improved performance and yields. Graphics cards based on the new GPU will not replace older models, but will slot in between the Radeon RX 580 introduced last year, and the higher-end Radeon Vega 56. AMD's recommended retail price is $279 (approximately Rs. 20,000 plus local taxes), and cards will be manufactured and sold by XFX, Asus, Sapphire, and PowerColor, amongst others. They will go on sale internationally from November 15.

According to AMD, the Radeon RX 590 is ideal for playing current AAA game titles at 1920x1080, which is the resolution used by 64 percent of gamers today. Compared to the Radeon RX 580 (Review), the new Radeon RX 590 should provide a 12 percent performance boost within the same thermal and power requirements. At that resolution, gamers can expect to see performance of over 60fps in Far Cry 5, Monster Hunter World, PUBG and Fortnite; over 90fps in Battlefield 1, Doom, and Forza Horizon 4; and over 120fps in CS:GO, DOTA 2, Overwatch, League of Legends, and COD: Black Ops 4.

AMD is specifically targeting gamers who are looking to upgrade from a Radeon RX 480 or Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 GPU, which are now a few years old. The Radeon RX 590 is claimed to deliver significant improvements in AAA and esports titles compared to these older GPUs, but isn't much of an upgrade over the Radeon RX 580. AMD also promises rich and immersive VR experiences.

In terms of specifications, the new GPU has 2304 stream processors grouped into 36 compute units, which is the same as the Radeon RX 580, but they will run at higher base and boost speeds of 1469MHz and up to 1545MHz respectively. Total bandwidth is rated at 7.1 Teraflops. All Radeon RX 590 graphics cards will have 8GB of GDDR5 RAM on a 256-bit memory bus. As with all current AMD GPUs, there will be support for variable refresh rates with compatible FreeSync monitors. Various driver and software features are also supported including the low-level Vulkan rendering API, AMD Radeon ReLive for recording and streaming gameplay, and Radeon Chill which caps and regulates framerates for lower power consumption.

Radeon RX 590 Graphics cards will compete with Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 models in the market. To make the deal sweeter, AMD is introducing a new game bundle across its product lineup. Three games are free with all purchases of a graphics card or fully built PC with a Radeon RX 590 GPU: Devil May Cry 5, The Division 2, and Resident Evil 2, which together represent significant value. The same free games will also be given free with Radeon RX Vega products, and anyone buying a Radeon RX 580 or Radeon RX 570 will be able to choose two of the three.

Nvidia announces GeForce RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti launching September 20

For $799 and $1,199 (Founders Edition)

 

At an event on Monday in Cologne, Germany, just before Gamescom kicks off, Nvidia finally announced what we have all been eagerly anticipating—a new generation of consumer graphics cards based on its "monster" Turing architecture, with ray-tracing and deep learning capabilities. Specifically, Nvidia unveiled three new cards, the GeForce RTX 2070, GeForce RTX 2080, and yes, the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti.



This is the first time that Nvidia has announced a "Ti" variant simultaneously with a new architecture. Typically the Ti models come out several months after Nvidia fleshes out its product stack. Not this time though. For this round, gamers can jump straight to the top. The cards are now live on Nvidia's website, and hoo boy, they aren't cheap.

Nvidia is taking preorders for the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and GeForce RTX 2080 right now, and will ship the cards "on or around" September 20, a month from today. The GeForce RTX 2070 is the only one of the three that's not up for preorder yet—Nvidia says it will be available in October.



Here are the specs for each card: 

 

 

One thing that's interesting is how Nvidia is approaching its Founders Edition SKUs this time around. FE cards were essentially reference designs with Pascal, but for the Turing launch, the FE models have overclocked boost clocks. That doesn't mean we won't see overclocked models from Nvidia's hardware partners. However, Nvidia's own FE variants, which it sells on its website, kick things up a notch at a $100 premium over reference cards. Nvidia says there are other reasons for the price premium, including an improved cooling setup, but we'll have to wait and see how the retail parts stack up in feature and performance.

On the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, the FE model's boost clock is 1,635MHz, which is 90Mhz faster than reference. Likewise, Nvidia goosed the boost clocks on its GeForce RTX 2080 FE and GeForce RTX 2070 FE by 90MHz as well, to 1,800MHz and 1,710MHz, respectively.



Beyond the raw specs, Nvidia is heavily emphasizing ray-tracing capabilities from its Turing architecture that powers these new cards. Turing is built for ray-tracing, Nvidia says, and offers 10 times better ray-tracing performance than Pascal. We'll have a deeper dive into all this later, but the general takeaway is that Nvidia's RTX cards are capable of producing better lighting effects than previous generation GPUs.



The Turing architecture also includes Tensor cores that can help with deep learning applications, and Nvidia discussed a new DLSS algorithm that can help produce higher quality upscaling. Again, we'll need to see this in action before we can render a final verdict, but potentially a game could run at 1080p and use DLSS to get near-4k quality without any real performance hit.



Finally, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang mentioned the ability of Turing to do simultaneous floating-point and integer calculations, at 14 TFLOPS/TIPS each. Graphics cards have to do a lot of address generation when loading textures, and the simultaneous FP + INT calculations could provide a serious benefit to performance, even in games that don't use ray-tracing. Jensen mentioned Turing being "1.5 times faster" than Pascal at one point, seemingly referring to the concurrent FP and INT capability, and if that proves to hold true in most games, even the RTX 2070 could match GTX 1080 Ti performance. Again, that's a an 'if' right now, but Turing is looking potent.
